Spring

Well, we are only days away from the official opening of Spring. The showers are here, the budding leaves, the crocuses, and the grass is getting greener. March winds have been blowing all month and the snails and slugs are already out. It even smells like Spring, which is a rather nice thing. My yard has suffered a lot of weather related damage this winter. We had a great deal of blow down, snow down, and freeze. OH! and the flooding. I would like to forget the flooded creek in my back yard that turned into a raging river. It left behind some substantial sandbars, but the creek is deeper and maybe that will help the salmon when they come back. The only draw back to this Spring is my dog Lucy. She is getting better everyday from her knee surgery, but the extra load bearing of all her weight on her other (good) knee made it give out too. So now the poor thing limps on both back legs. She will be going into surgery for the other knee in about four weeks after a little more recovery from the first operation. Yikes! She smells Spring right outside the door, and it is making her crazy. She smell the little night critters coming out of their winter homes and she longs to get out there and chase something, dig something up, roll in some awful stuff and howl at the moon. Spring can do that to a dog, but Lucy will have to miss it all this year. She is supposed to be confined, kept calm and not more then 3 very short walks a day, very short. If all goes well she will be running, digging, swimming and rolling in the stinky stuff by mid summer. Looking forward to it. www.janetwoldart.com
