Happy New Year

Wow, did the last 6 weeks fly by. I have been a spinning. I am taking a few days to catch my breath, appreciate all that I have, and do some baking. I will be getting back to the studio next week and plan to start a new series of oil paintings. I just hope my paints are OK. They where out in the garage during the last two freezing spells. Oh, yeah the Everett studio is on going. Jane and I continue to share the large space on Wetmore & Hewitt. It is a cold old building, but who can complain with all the windows and the good company. We have plenty of room to work, with wonderful display areas. Besides the gallery and work space we have a wonderful junk room, with lots of fun stuff to play with, assemble, read or hang, and the prices couldn't be better. We are right on the corner with plenty of parking so access is easy, and our landlord seems happy we are there. Our open to the public hours are going to be cut, so we can get some work done, but if you are in the area feel free to stop by and give the door as knock.

Mold Making

The mold making demo was a lot of fun and I really think I got a handle on the process. Visiting artist Kevin Richart's experience with the medium provided valuable lessons for avoiding pitfalls and having success with the materials.

Free Life Casting Demo

Next Saturday at my studio in Everett I will be hosting guest artist Kevin Richart. He will be giving a talk and demonstration on mold making from the human body. I am so excited as it is something I have been curious about for years. He makes it sound very easy with the right materials.

Local Color Seattle

I have an opening this Saturday night the 7th at Local Color in Seattle. They are located in the Pike Place market. I will be there from 6 - 8 pm, and I hope to see some of you there. They will be having goodies and they validate parking, see their site for map and other info. www.LocalColorSeattle.com
Galapalooza was a great success. I love that event. I was in a bit of a whirlwind, and I didn't have the time or space to get all the vintage jewelry, old oddities and hat pins, feathers, fabulous rhinestone buttons and what not out. So I am going to do a little wearable art fair right at the studio. My studio mate Jane Steele-Meagher, will have her fabric and clay jewelry creations along with the fabulous Maggie D , who will be adding to the vintage sparkle with jewelry, handbags, linens and so much more. This will take place December 4 & 5th from 10-6. Just in time for holiday dress up and gift shopping. We will be serving up some fun too! 2831 Wetmore Ave, Everett. The studio is now open 6 days a week from 11:30 - 2:00. Although you may find us there in the late afternoon/evening or by appointment.

Galapalooza

Hello, Art Friends!
Several art happenings are coming up this weekend.
1st. This Saturday, the 24th, is Galapalooza at the Monte Cristo in Everett, from 10 - 5PM. This is a wearable art fair. I will be there selling vintage, antique and costume jewelry. Lots of sparkle stuff for the holidays, plus vintage buttons, eye wear, and some very old fancy hat pins. I have a few pieces of vintage cosmetic items, and some fun little handbags. Besides me, there will be 30 other artists/crafts persons and vendors with everything from handmade scarf's, jackets and purses to vintage clothes and much more. We have raffles, a cake walk, wine and massages.
Men don't need to shy away, as it is a one stop holiday gift buying extravaganza. I will also have a few men's items, (vintage ties, and cufflinks). 1507 Wall St. in Everett. www.artscouncilofsnoco.org

2nd. Going on the same day is "Open Studio" for the artists on Wetmore Avenue. On the corner of Hewitt and Wetmore is my studio space, 2831 Wetmore, that I share with Jane Steele-Meagher. She is a fiber artist and sculptor. She will open the studio/gallery at noon. Next door to us is Evelia Sanchez, who is a clay and mixed media artist, along with her studio mate, Cheri O'bien. Just a few doors from them is Carol Chen Lord, who has a made a lovely studio filled with mixed media collage. All three studios will be open until 8 PM, and will be serving refreshments.

3rd. I will be having an opening in Seattle on Saturday, November 7th, at Local Color in the Pike Place Market. Local Color is coffee shop and jazz house located just across from the flower stalls at the market. The shop is run by a wonderful couple who put on an great opening. Fall Colors

We are already in the 3rd week of fall with Halloween just around the corner. The costumes are coming out of the closet, and party planning is in full swing. Little kids are dreaming about mountains of candy. I personally love the bags of individually packaged miniature candy bars, malt ball, and sugar babies. This is stuff that wouldn't make it past the front door if it wasn't for the holiday.
The painting on this post is from my "The Color Inside" series, of 12 x 12 inch acrylic paintings. This piece has some very nice deep fall colors. As I painted this series I tried to visualized what a person would look like if they were color mapped. What color would their emotions be? What color would their mood be? How much space would happiness take up, and what color would it be for each individual.
